'Hello to Me'

The children's book, 'Hello to Me,' is our first project, introducing a young girl named 'Joanne' who has multiple disabilities including autism, hearing loss and is nonverbal. The book shares a story of how she gets along with her friends with different disabilities as well as the neurotypical people around her. Everyone needs friends, but it's not always easy to be friends with someone different from ourselves. Sometimes, we need creative and open minds to connect with people from different cultural and social backgrounds. Unfortunately, we don't often get opportunities to share stories about children with disabilities, so our creative team hopes this book will provide an opportunity for children, parents and educators to discuss diverse friendships and what friendship means to individuals, especially children with disabilities.
